Upper East Regional House of Chiefs urges President Mahama to prioritise key infrastructure projects

The Upper East Regional House of Chiefs has called on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise critical development infrastructure in the region.
The House made the appeal when it paid a courtesy call on the President at the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, the Chiana Pio, Pe Ditundini Adiali Ayagtam III, Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, acknowledged what he described as the President’s governance efforts, which he said had contributed to a reduction in inflation and improvements in other economic indicators.
“We also wish to express our admiration for your government’s masterly reset of the national economy. The tangible results of your stewardship, especially the remarkable feat of bringing inflation below four percent, stabilizing our exchange rate, and reducing fuel prices, have breathed new life into our local markets for the ordinary citizens in the Upper East Region and Ghana as a whole.”
Pe Ditundini called on the President to prioritise key road projects in the Upper East Region under the government’s Big Push Agenda.
“We look forward to the big push that will transform our region’s roads and infrastructure landscape. We applaud the progress on the Navrongo, Tumu to Wa road and the regional airports. Our humble expectation is that these projects will progress steadily.”
He also appealed for the revamping of the Pwalugu Tomato Factory, the continuation of the Pwalugu multipurpose dam project, the completion of the Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulimakom road project, the rehabilitation of the Tamale–Bolgatanga–Paga road, and the construction of the Upper East Regional Airport.
“The Upper East Region remains the tomato hub of Ghana. However, without the processing facility, our farmers hardwork often ends in post-harvest losses. We appeal to you to revamp the abandoned Palogo factory.”
On youth development, the Regional House of Chiefs appealed for the completion of the Navrongo Youth Resource Centre and the construction of an ultramodern sports stadium in Bolgatanga.
“A healthy and active youth population is the backbone of any progressive nation. To harness the immense talent in our region, we appeal for the urgent completion of the Navrongo Youth Resource Center, which has been stalled for eight years, and the construction of an ultramodern stadium in Bogotanga.”
Responding, President Mahama acknowledged the role of the House of Chiefs and noted that the region holds significant development potential if properly invested in. He highlighted key interventions the government is initiating in the region, including the rescoping of the Pwalugu Tomato Factory and the Pwalugu Dam, and assured the chiefs of the government’s continued collaboration with traditional authorities.
He also highlighted key progress made in achieving steady peace in Bawku and the setting up of the Bawku Revitalization Fund, spearheading development in the area.
