PAYOM honours UE regional GTA director for role in 2025 Panafest success
The 2025 Panafest and Emancipation Day celebration, hosted at the Pikworo Slave Camp in Paga-Nania, featured rich cultural displays and diaspora engagement activities, promoting the region’s historical significance and cultural diversity.
The Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM) has honoured the outgoing Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Wisdom Ahadzi, with a citation of appreciation for his pivotal role in the successful organisation of the 2025 Panafest and Emancipation Day celebrations in the region.
The group recognized the GTA’s commitment and the tireless efforts of its regional staff in delivering a memorable and impactful edition of the cultural festival, which brought together thousands of participants and stakeholders from across the country and beyond.
In March, ahead of the celebration, PAYOM made a financial contribution to support the regional GTA office’s preparations, working in collaboration with local partners to ensure the event’s success.
Speaking during the presentation, Chairman of the Paga Youth Movement, Duriyem Wenawome Aborah, expressed profound gratitude to the GTA and Ahadzi for championing tourism and cultural heritage promotion in the region.
“So today, we came back to properly acknowledge your role with a citation for you and the other members of the committee who made Panafest 2025 a success,” Aborah stated.
He further highlighted the broader significance of the event, stressing that its success has positioned the Upper East Region as a rising tourism destination capable of driving job creation and economic growth.
“Tourism in this region has great potential for job creation, especially for our youth. We therefore urge all stakeholders to continue supporting such initiatives to sustain the growth of the sector,” he added.

Receiving the citation, Wisdom Ahadzi praised PAYOM for its initiative and reaffirmed the GTA’s readiness to deepen collaboration with community-based groups in promoting regional tourism.
“You’ve indicated clearly in your statement that others played their role — the Paga Youth Movement in particular. If there should be any award from our outfit, we are giving it to the Paga Youth Movement. As far as the record of this office is concerned, you feature greatly, and your role is not taken for granted at all,” Ahadzi said.
