Ghana Fire Service collaborates with YEA to recruit 5,000 Fire Service Assistants
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has partnered the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to introduce a youth employment module – Fire Service Assistants Programme.
The programme, targeted at recruiting 5,000 youth, aims to enhance fire safety and emergency response capabilities across the country while providing employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on Friday May 2, at the Ministry of Interior by the Ag. Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong and the Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Malik Basintale, together with the Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak and the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo.
The Ministry of Interior says the initiative demonstrates the Government’s commitment to empowering the youth and enhancing the operations of the Ghana National Fire Service, especially in light of the recent rampant fire outbreaks across the country.
Muntaka Mohammed–Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential to promote youth employment and national development.
According to him, this is in line with the Government’s 24-hour economy initiative aims to expand economic activity beyond traditional business hours, aiming to enhance productivity, boost competitiveness, and create more job opportunities.
The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, thanked the Minister for the Interior for implementing this module and appealed to him to develop other similar modules with the various agencies under the Ministry.
The respective heads of the partnering institutions emphasised the importance of collaboration in achieving their respective mandates.
