CJ removal petition committee composed of NDC apparatchiks – Ayariga
Ayariga alleged that the committee is politically compromised, claiming it is composed by NDC apparatchiks, and warning that such a composition could undermine the integrity of the entire process.
Dickson Ayariga, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team in the Navrongo Central Constituency, has raised serious concerns about the impartiality of the committee tasked with handling matters related to the potential removal of Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, May 23, Ayariga alleged that the committee is politically compromised, claiming it is composed by NDC apparatchiks, and warning that such a composition could undermine the integrity of the entire process.
“If the committee is perceived to be biased, then justice cannot be served properly,” Ayariga cautioned.
Despite his criticism of the committee’s composition, Ayariga supported the recent decision to temporarily halt proceedings, describing it as a prudent move given the growing concerns over fairness.
“The decision by a committee to halt a process, I believe, is a step in the right direction,” he said, expressing support for the recent move to suspend proceedings.
Ayariga also commended the suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo for her call to have her case heard in public. He described the request as a strong step toward transparency and accountability.
“For fairness and transparency in the committee’s proceedings—by allowing the public to view the hearings and ensuring that the committee is impartial—the process can be conducted in a fair, just manner, and the public can hold those involved accountable,” he emphasized.
Justice Torkornoo, who was suspended earlier recently, under Article 146 of the Constitution, has petitioned the Supreme Court to bar two justices from participating in proceedings related to her removal and to restrain the investigative committee until her application is heard.
The case has sparked intense national debate over judicial independence, due process, and the role of political influence in legal proceedings.
