You’re the backbone of party structures – Afoko rallies NPP women
NPP National Chairmanship aspirant Paul Afoko says women are central to the party’s organisation, mobilisation and electoral success and must play a greater role in leadership.
Awentami Paul Afoko, an aspirant for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Chairmanship, has urged the party to place women at the centre of its administrative structures.
Speaking to party delegates as he advances his campaign for the NPP’s top administrative post, Afoko described women as essential organisers, communicators, business leaders, professionals, farmers, traders, caregivers, and strategists, noting that women are the backbone of homes, communities, and party structures.
“To the women of our party and of Ghana, I say this: no serious renewal of the NPP can take place without women at the centre. If you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation,” Afoko stated.
He outlined how, as National Chairman, he would elevate women from an appendix of party activity to a central pillar of organisation and policy, saying he would prioritise women’s roles in party organisation, policy engagement, fundraising, communication, mobilisation and leadership development, insisting that a revitalised NPP must leverage the energy and skills of its female membership.c
“The NPP cannot recapture power without women. Ghana cannot prosper without women. Women’s inclusion is both a moral imperative and a strategic necessity for electoral success and national development,” he reiterated.
Afoko’s appeal comes as the party prepares to renew its leadership and reassess strategies to reconnect with voters nationwide.
He said meaningful participation by women in decision-making and policy-shaping is critical to rebuilding trust and expanding the party’s reach into communities where women play central economic and social roles.
His remarks signal a campaign focus on inclusivity and organisational reform, with targeted efforts to empower women within the party’s structures and to ensure that party policies reflect the realities and priorities of women across Ghana’s economy and society.
Afoko called for women-centred renewal additions to a growing conversation within the NPP about how best to revitalise the party and broaden its appeal ahead of future elections.
