Mahama’s clemency for closed radio stations mere theatrics -NPP’s Moses Amoah

He questioned the sincerity of Mahama’s intervention and suggested that the move was aimed more at winning public sympathy than addressing the regulatory concerns.

Moses Amoah, Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Navrongo Central Constituency, has criticised President John Mahama’s intervention in the recent closure of 64 radio stations, describing the move as mere theatrics.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) on Thursday suspended the operations of the affected stations, citing multiple regulatory infractions. The NCA stated that the stations had repeatedly violated broadcasting rules, including non-compliance with licensing requirements and failure to respond to previous warnings.

However, within hours of the NCA’s announcement, President Mahama ordered the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation to work with the NCA to immediately restore the licenses of the stations, sparking both praise and criticism.

Reacting to the development on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday June 13, Amoah dismissed the President’s directive as an attempt to score political points.

“You see, yesterday what transpired is nothing but politically motivated theatrics. something that’s just for the optics, to praise John Mahama for something that he doesn’t deserve. When you read the issues, surprisingly, most of the radio stations are NPP-affiliated radio stations. “Amoah said.

He questioned the sincerity of Mahama’s intervention and suggested that the move was aimed more at winning public sympathy than addressing the regulatory concerns.

“Sam George is he not working for and on behalf of the President, the NCA CEO, doesn’t he take supervisory instructions from the Minister, are you saying that the Minister took this decision without the knowledge of the President.” Amoah questioned.
