NPP Regional appointments will not change party’s fortunes in Upper East – Alfred Aliah

NDC communicator Alfred Aliah says the NPP’s latest regional appointments may improve representation but are unlikely to translate into major electoral gains in 2028.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team member for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Alfred Aliah, says the appointment of ten additional regional officers by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region will not significantly improve the party’s electoral fortunes ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, August 31, Aliah acknowledged that the appointments had helped address concerns over geographical and zonal representation within the party.

However, he argued that greater representation alone would not necessarily translate into electoral success for the NPP.

He congratulated the newly appointed officers but said their appointments were largely in fulfilment of a constitutional provision available to the party.

According to him, the key issue was not whether the various zones of the region were represented, but whether the newly appointed officers could make a meaningful impact on the party’s fortunes.

“The problem is not about the balance here. The problem is about the impact it will create,” he said.

Aliah further argued that several of the appointees had previously served the NPP in various capacities, and therefore their appointment alone could not transform the party’s political fortunes.

He said similar appointments had been made in the past without producing the level of political impact being projected by some NPP representatives.

While acknowledging the NPP’s efforts to improve zonal representation, Aliah maintained that such balance should ideally have been achieved during the election of the substantive regional executives.

He also argued that appointed executives could have less influence than elected executives in some major party decisions, and therefore the appointments should not be portrayed as a major political breakthrough for the NPP.
