PURC Announces 2.45% Increase in Electricity Tariffs Effective July 1
PURC explained that the adjustment was based on several economic factors, including the depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, inflationary pressures, changes in natural gas prices, and the current energy generation mix, which comprises both hydro and thermal sources.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 2.45% upward adjustment in electricity tariffs for all consumer categories, effective July 1, 2025. The decision follows the Commission’s latest Quarterly Tariff Review, conducted to ensure the sustainability of utility providers while safeguarding consumer interests.
In a statement, PURC explained that the adjustment was based on several economic factors, including the depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, inflationary pressures, changes in natural gas prices, and the current energy generation mix, which comprises both hydro and thermal sources.
“These factors have a direct impact on the cost of electricity production and delivery. The review ensures that utility providers can maintain reliable service while protecting consumers from sudden, steep increases,” the statement said.
The 2.45% increase will apply to residential, commercial, industrial, and special load customers. Water tariffs, however, will remain unchanged, as the Commission seeks to balance affordability with sustainability in service provision.
The PURC has encouraged consumers to adopt energy-saving habits and monitor their usage closely to minimize the effect of the new rates on their bills. It also reiterated its commitment to regular stakeholder consultations and transparent tariff-setting processes.
