Infrastructure deficit worsens at Paga Hospital as Agenda 111 project stalls

Dr. Didier Oteng, said the hospital lacks essential infrastructure such as wards and a theatre, which continues to hinder effective healthcare delivery.

The Management of the Kassena-Nankana West District Hospital (Paga Hospital) in the Upper East Region has expressed concern over the deteriorating infrastructure at the facility, calling on stakeholders to intervene and push for the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital project, which was initiated by the previous government.

Speaking during a donation of medical non-consumables to the hospital by the Sigibunga Nimoro Modam Pepper Sellers Association on Friday, July 25, 2025, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Didier Oteng, said the hospital lacks essential infrastructure such as wards and a theatre, which continues to hinder effective healthcare delivery.

“It is true that we have a lot of challenges with our infrastructure. The wards are not up to standard, and it’s affecting our service delivery.” He said.

Dr. Oteng noted that despite these challenges, the hospital remains resilient and has emerged as one of the best-performing primary healthcare facilities in the Upper East Region.

“The hospital is doing whatever it can, no matter the challenges that we are having. We were upgraded in 2020 from a health centre to a hospital, and from 2022 up to date, we have been leading the region as the best primary hospital for the past three years.”

He appealed to stakeholders to amplify their call for the Mahama administration to resume and complete the construction of the Agenda 111 district hospital, which, according to him, was about 85 percent complete when the NPP government exited power.

“We are very grateful for the Agenda 111. We thought it could have been completed before now, but then hope is not lost. We are praying that the negotiation will continue. Our chiefs and opinion leaders should continue to help us so that we can complete it as early as possible.” Dr. Oteng appealed.

He emphasized that completing the Agenda 111 hospital project in Paga would boost the morale and efficiency of the hospital’s staff, thereby enhancing healthcare delivery in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
