NPP Upper East Regional Chairman defends disciplinary actions against 16 party members

Namoo explained that the Regional Disciplinary Committee arrived at its conclusions after a thorough investigation, which included witness testimonies and audio recordings implicating the affected individuals.

The Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo Esq, has justified the recent disciplinary sanctions imposed on 16 party members from the Pusiga and Tempane constituencies, insisting the decision followed due process and was based on credible evidence.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, August 4, Namoo explained that the Regional Disciplinary Committee arrived at its conclusions after a thorough investigation, which included witness testimonies and audio recordings implicating the affected individuals.

“Some of them, gracefully, technology gave them in others through audio recordings. One of them went and cashed an amount of GHS 20,000 meant for monitoring the registration exercise. A constituency treasurer went and withdrew this money and squandered it, depriving the party of the resources it needed to do its work.” Namoo disclosed.

He emphasised that the process was fair and not a “kangaroo court,” adding that the committee was cautious in handling sensitive evidence to protect loyal party members who helped secure votes for the NPP.

“For some of them, the evidence spoke for itself. Others, we had to talk to witnesses, but we had to be very careful not to endanger committed party members who made sure the little votes we got were secured,” he stated.

Responding to allegations by some of the sanctioned officials, including Pusiga Communications Officer Emmanuel Awinimi, who claimed the charges were not formally disclosed, Namoo said the volatile security situation in the Bawku enclave necessitated a cautious approach.

“We had an unusual situation in the Bawku zone, and therefore, you have to tackle the matter based on the exigencies of the situation,” he explained.

Namoo further stressed that the party is a democratic institution governed by a constitution, which provides avenues for aggrieved members to seek redress through the appropriate channels.
