Kassena Nankana Municipal assembly marks national sanitation Day with clean-up exercise
The exercise, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustina Akeyom Abulu, commenced early in the morning and saw participation from assembly officials, security agencies, organised groups, and residents.
The Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly on Saturday, September 6, organised a massive clean-up exercise as part of activities marking the National Sanitation Day initiative introduced by the government.
The exercise, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustina Akeyom Abulu, commenced early in the morning and saw participation from assembly officials, security agencies, organised groups, and residents.
Areas cleaned included the main lorry station, drains, and other strategic locations within the municipality.

Addressing participants at the end of the exercise, Abulu expressed gratitude to all who took part and commended the government for sustaining the sanitation drive.
“I want to thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to honor this exercise. I commend the president for bringing this initiative, and we must all endeavor to sustain it.” She said.
The MCE further emphasised the importance of maintaining a clean environment, urging residents to adopt regular cleaning as a way of life in order to promote public health.
Some participants who joined the clean-up exercise praised the initiative but expressed concern over the low turnout, particularly from traders in the market.
“This is a very good initiative because sanitation is key to our health. As the saying goes, cleanliness is next to godliness. However, the numbers were not encouraging. Some of the market women locked up their shops and left instead of joining the exercise. We hope to see greater participation next month,” one participant remarked.
The National Sanitation Day, observed on the first Saturday of every month, is part of the government’s efforts to instill communal spirit and improve sanitation across the country.
