Dream big and take deliberate steps to succeed – Prof. Luguterah tells young girls

Mentorship speakers urge students to combine ambition with discipline, resilience and education as they prepare for future leadership roles.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Navrongo, Professor Albert Luguterah, has encouraged young girls to dream beyond limitations and take deliberate steps towards achieving their academic and life ambitions.

Addressing participants at the second edition of A Voice for Her Mentorship Series held at Our Ladies of Lourdes Girls’ Senior High School in Navrongo on Saturday, June 13, Prof. Luguterah emphasized that there is no limit to how far one can dream.

“Dream big because you can never be bigger than the dream you have. Dreaming is free, but as you dream, take concrete steps towards achieving your goals,” he advised.

He challenged the young girls to explore the numerous pathways that lead to success and remain focused on their aspirations despite obstacles they may encounter.

Prof. Luguterah encouraged them to rise after every setback and continue pursuing their dreams, stressing that education remains a powerful equaliser capable of transforming lives regardless of one’s background or past mistakes.

Touching on the importance of relationships, he urged the students to build meaningful networks that would provide support and opportunities in the future.

He also advised them to take their spiritual lives seriously through prayer and personal discipline while avoiding distractions such as excessive social media use and negative peer influence that could derail their ambitions.

The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Aworigo, also underscored the importance of thinking big and maintaining a positive outlook toward life.

“As young girls growing up, dream big and be unapologetically bold. However, blend your confidence with humility and compassion. Stay focused, and the sky will only be your starting point,” he said.

Using the biblical story of Joseph as an illustration, Aworigo encouraged the students to persevere through challenges and setbacks in pursuit of their aspirations.

“The story of Joseph teaches us that while we may dream and aspire to greatness, challenges will inevitably arise. What is important is that we do not give up when difficulties come our way,” he stated.

The MP also shared his personal journey from a humble background to his current position, urging the students to believe that their dreams are attainable regardless of their circumstances.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the school in addressing some of its challenges to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

Representing the Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area, the Secretary to the Paramount Chief, Felix Kondayire, noted that the future belongs to those who dare to dream and work towards their aspirations.

He encouraged the young girls to develop self-worth, recognize their potential, and refuse to allow poverty, fear, or societal stereotypes to limit their ambitions.

According to him, education remains the foundation upon which many dreams can be realized and sustained.

Kondayire also called for stronger social protection systems and support structures for young girls, stressing the need for society to create an enabling environment for their growth and development.

“As a society, we must continue to support and protect our girls, reject practices and attitudes that hinder their growth, and instead create opportunities that allow them to flourish,” he said.

Held on the theme, “The magic of thinking big: equipping young girls for school, leadership and life,” the event featured interactive sessions with distinguished academics, business leaders, and professionals who shared valuable experiences and insights to inspire the students toward excellence.

Participants expressed excitement about the mentorship programme and commended the organisers for creating a platform that motivates young girls to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.

They noted that the lessons and inspiration gained from the event would have a lasting impact on their lives and future aspirations.
