I’ll personally follow up on the stadium project – Adongo assures Bolgatanga residents
Speaking at a short ceremony to welcome young Denis Apusika, the young man who walked from Bolgatanga to Accra to advocate for a stadium, Adongo assured the gathering of his commitment to pushing the project forward.
The dream of a modern sports stadium in the Upper East Region may soon become a reality, as the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has pledged to personally follow up on the project by engaging key national stakeholders.
Speaking at a short ceremony to welcome young Denis Apusika, the young man who walked from Bolgatanga to Accra to advocate for a stadium, Adongo assured the gathering of his commitment to pushing the project forward.
“I will contact GNPC to come and take the design so I can present it to the Sports Minister. He’s my friend, we used to sit close together in Parliament, but now that he’s a Minister, he doesn’t get much time in the House,”
“This will fast-track our stadium to be considered first. When the green light is finally given, our design will be ready,” he said.
The conversation around the lack of a stadium in the Upper East Region recently gained national attention. During President John Dramani Mahama’s first media engagement in Accra since returning to office, Joshua Asaah, a Journalist with Bolgatanga-based radio station A1 Radio, raised the pressing issue of sports infrastructure in the region.
This came shortly after Denis Apusika completed his remarkable journey on foot from Bolgatanga to Accra, calling for the construction of a stadium. These combined efforts appear to have made an impact.
President Mahama, in response, acknowledged the gap and announced plans to construct new stadia in regions currently without one. He reiterated this commitment during a meeting with players of Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars ahead of their CAF competitions.
The return of Dennis Apusika was not only a celebration of his courage but also a rallying moment for stakeholders in the region to push harder for development.
