Dr. Jacob Paarechuga urges media to uphold peace and unity in Upper East Region

Dr. Anankware cautioned against inflammatory reportage, reminding media practitioners of the devastating consequences irresponsible journalism has had in other countries.

The Deputy Chief Executive (General Services) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Jacob Paarechuga Anankware, has called on journalists and residents of the Upper East Region to use the power of the media to promote peace, unity, and development rather than division and conflict.

Speaking at the 4th Upper East Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held at the Blue-Sky Hotel in Bolgatanga on October 10, Dr. Anankware cautioned against inflammatory reportage, reminding media practitioners of the devastating consequences irresponsible journalism has had in other countries.

“Your reportage has the tendency to make or unmake this country. We have seen how the activities of some journalists have caused chaos in other nations, including Rwanda. The Upper East is blessed with knowledgeable people who focus on development, not destruction and we are grateful for that.” He said.

Dr. Anankware made a passionate appeal for peace and unity in the Upper East Region, warning against tribal divisions that threaten social cohesion and progress.

“We have no region other than the Upper East. Let’s stop the tribal tendencies that destroy us. If two brothers fight, a stranger will inherit their land. We must stay united because only in unity will development and prosperity locate our people.” He appealed.

Dr. Anankware also praised the media for contributing to transparency in governance and urged them to continue performing their watchdog role with integrity and professionalism.

“If not for your good reportage, we would not have known that over $10 million was allocated for a particular project and nothing was done. Your vigilance has saved this country from waste and impunity.” He emphasized

The 4th Upper East GJA Awards celebrated outstanding journalists under the theme “Upholding Public Trust: The Role of the Media in Promoting Accountable Governance in the Upper East Region.”
