President Mahama’s new year message ‘mixed with propaganda’ – NPP Youth Organizer

Bayivere said while he commended the President for acknowledging Ghana’s democratic gains and commenting on the country’s inflation trends, he strongly disagreed with the claim that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) inherited an economy “on its knees".

Daniel Bayivere, the Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of mixing propaganda with his New Year message to Ghanaians.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show, Bayivere said while he commended the President for acknowledging Ghana’s democratic gains and commenting on the country’s inflation trends, he strongly disagreed with the claim that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) inherited an economy “on its knees.”

According to him, the President’s assertion was misleading and did not reflect the economic realities at the time his administration assumed office.

“Is it true that the economy the NDC inherited was on its knees? The President peddled falsehoods and engaged in propaganda in his New Year message to Ghanaians,” Bayivere stated.

He argued that the economic indicators at the time of the transition painted a more positive picture, noting that inflation had reduced from about 54 percent to 23 percent, while fuel prices had dropped from approximately GH¢17 to GH¢14 per litre.

He further added that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other international institutions had projected a positive outlook for Ghana’s economy prior to the NPP’s exit from office.

Bayivere also questioned the President’s commitment to addressing youth unemployment, challenging him to provide clear data on job creation under his administration.

“Can the President tell us the current unemployment rate under his leadership? Has it reduced, and how many young people have been employed since he took office?” he asked.

“He should be the last person to speak about unemployment because, under him, the situation has rather worsened.”
