In a statement dated January 13, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it took serious note of comments made by Professor Frimpong Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has begun processes to expel former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, following what it describes as “reprehensible and disparaging” comments made against the party.
In a statement dated January 13, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it took serious note of comments made by Professor Frimpong Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.
During the interview, Professor Frimpong Boateng reportedly described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the governing party. He further alleged that the party’s 2023 Presidential Primary was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
The party has, however, categorically rejected the claims, describing them as baseless, unsubstantiated, and unfortunate.
According to the NPP, the 2023 Presidential Primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, and its outcome faithfully reflected the will of party delegates. The party noted that all candidates who participated in the primary, as well as well-meaning members of the party, have acknowledged the credibility of the process.
The statement stressed that the conduct and utterances of Professor Frimpong Boateng are inimical to the values, unity and integrity of the New Patriotic Party.
“As a result, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process.” The statement said.
The NPP reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, unity, and respect for its constitutional processes as it takes steps to address matters it considers harmful to the party’s image and cohesion.
