Presidential aspirants must respect the peace pact – NPP’s Dr Samuel Akongo

Dr. Akonga stressed that the party’s grassroots expect a high level of maturity and responsibility from all contestants to safeguard the future of the NPP.

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Regional Communications Team, Dr. Samuel Akonga, has called on aspirants in the party’s upcoming primaries to honour the peace pact they signed and commit themselves to party unity after the January 31 contest.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, January 26, Dr. Akonga stressed that the party’s grassroots expect a high level of maturity and responsibility from all contestants to safeguard the future of the NPP.

“At the close of polls on that day, we will know who has won. We expect those who do not emerge victorious to concede defeat, accept the results, and pledge their support to the winner. That is what the grassroots want.” He said.

“We are therefore calling on all the gentlemen involved to respect the peace pact they have signed.”

Dr. Akonga warned that any candidate who acts contrary to these expectations risks damaging not only party cohesion but also their own political future.

“Anyone who goes against this collective understanding stands the risk of jeopardising their political career and may pay dearly for such actions.” He cautioned.

He further underscored the importance of effective and honest communication in managing internal competition and ensuring unity after the primaries.

“Communication must be sincere. Do not say things you know are untrue about fellow candidates. When the images of individuals are damaged through lies, it makes reconciliation very difficult after elections.” Dr. Akonga added.

The NPP is set to hold its primaries on January 31, amid calls from party leaders and communicators for peace, discipline, and unity before, during, and after the exercise.
