Mahama deserves more than 68% IEA rating — NDC Communicator

Abuga described the survey result as an underestimation of the President’s performance since assuming office.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Benjamin Biadana Abuga, has commended President John Dramani Mahama, arguing that the President deserves a rating higher than the 68 per cent score recorded in a recent survey by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, February 16, Abuga described the survey result as an underestimation of the President’s performance since assuming office.

“I think they underrated him because almost every sector of the economy is doing well. There is a lot that he has done right,” he stated.

Abuga cited what he described as key achievements of the Mahama administration, including the formation of a lean government, stabilisation of the cedi against major international currencies, and what he termed prudent economic management.

“He promised Ghanaians a lean government and he has delivered exactly that with prudent governance. He told us he was going to stabilise our cedi against international currencies, and he has done that. Today, the cedi is the best-performing currency in Africa,” he said.

He further expressed optimism about the country’s current economic trajectory, contrasting it with the situation in 2023 and 2024.

“I can’t imagine that this is the same Ghana we were in during 2023 and 2024, the same country, same resources, same location,” he remarked.

Abuga also criticised the previous administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing it of mismanaging the economy and failing to prioritise national development.

“They were not committed to developing our country. They showed clearly that they lied their way into power and came to loot our resources. Inflation went up to 54 per cent under the NPP, and today it is in single digits,” he alleged.

Providing what he described as a “performance checklist” of the current government under President John Dramani Mahama, Abuga listed achievements including a lean government structure, cedi stabilisation, reduction in fuel prices, scrapping of the E-levy and betting tax, payment of contractors, and implementation of anti-corruption initiatives such as “Operation Recover All Loot.”

He maintained that these interventions justify a higher approval rating than that reflected in the IEA survey.
