Manyoro women form ‘United Sisters’ to drive development, appeal for support to grow

United Sisters, a group of young women in Manyoro in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality formed to champion development, has made a passionate appealed to the community, non-governmental organisations, and benevolent institutions for logistical and financial support to enhance its operations and broaden its outreach.

The 35-member group has, within a short period, distinguished itself through a range of community service initiatives, including support for the needy, sanitation efforts in public spaces, and welfare assistance to its members.

Speaking at the launch of the group in Manyoro on Saturday, March 28 2026, its President Mercy Achana, enumerated some of the group’s achievements and its overarching mission is to serve humanity and promote community development.

“In just a few months, we have lived our vision of reaching and touching the lives of the needy. We have supported vulnerable individuals, donated to orphans at Mother of Mercy in Sirigu, undertaken clean-up exercises at the market and health centre.” she stated.

As a new group, funding for its activities remains a huge challenge as members contribute their savings to mobilise resources for their activities. Achana, therefore, appealed for support in the form of logistics such as hand gloves, brooms, and dustbins to sustain the group’s regular clean-up exercises.

She also called for small grants and partnerships with NGOs and other stakeholders to strengthen the group’s financial capacity and expand its impact.

“The Overlord of Manyoro is very excited about this initiative and urges you to continue your good works. The traditional authority is ever ready to support you to succeed in this noble cause,” he said.

The Assembly Member for the Manyoro Electoral Area, Kingsley Kanwi, also expressed enthusiasm about the group’s formation, noting that its activities would bring significant benefits to the community.

The launch ceremony featured a variety of activities, including games such as musical chairs, egg-and-spoon races, and eating competitions. A mini fundraising drive was also held to support the group’s ongoing and future initiatives.
