We risk a lawless society without discipline – Cultural Enthusiast warns
He urges parents and guardians to uphold and pass on positive cultural values, warning that neglecting discipline could lead to increasing indiscipline and a breakdown of social order.
A cultural enthusiast and retired teacher in the Kassena Nankana Municipality, Jonathan Aborah, has called on the public, particularly parents and guardians, to prioritise instilling discipline in young people to safeguard the future of society.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday, April 9, Aborah stressed the need to deliberately pass on valuable cultural tenets, especially discipline, to both current and future generations.
“Whatever good cultural values our ancestors handed down to us through our parents should be upheld and transmitted to the next generation,” he said.
He expressed concern over what he described as the growing replacement of indigenous values with foreign practices, arguing that the shift is contributing to rising indiscipline among the youth.
According to him, society risks descending into lawlessness if discipline is neglected.
“If we push discipline aside, society becomes lawless. Many of the responsible people we see today were shaped by discipline,” he noted.
Aborah further advocated for a balanced approach that combines positive cultural values with modern methods of discipline.
He said such a blend would help raise responsible individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
