According to the Minister, enhanced security has been achieved through intensified operations by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC). These measures include increased surveillance, improved intelligence gathering, strengthened early-warning systems, and closer collaboration among security agencies.

“Through REGSEC, we have strengthened joint operations among our security agencies, and these proactive measures have directly contributed to enhanced safety, stability, and public confidence across the region,” Akamugri stated.

He acknowledged that Bawku continues to pose security challenges but stressed that the situation has improved compared to previous periods, making the region generally safer for residents, businesses, and investors.

Beyond conflict-related security concerns, the Akamugri said authorities are actively tackling criminal activities such as motorbike snatching and armed robberies in areas including Talensi, Zaare, Soe, marketplaces, and other parts of the region.

He explained that these efforts involve coordinated security interventions and community-based strategies, notably the establishment and strengthening of market security committees.

Akamugri also stressed the progress made in resolving long-standing disputes through dialogue and mediation, noting that these initiatives have helped to reduce tensions and rebuild trust among affected communities.

Key conflicts being addressed include the Bolgatanga Skin dispute, the Tongo–Beo and Zuarungu boundary disputes, mining-related tensions in Talensi, and the Doba–Kadinga law dispute.

“Through structured dialogue and targeted mediation, we are fostering a culture of restraint, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

The Minister noted that sustained peace and security are essential for socioeconomic development, investment, and the overall wellbeing of the people of the Upper East Region, adding that government remains committed to consolidating the gains made so far.
