UTAS-UTAG donates to Navrongo Central Prison to support inmates
The donation, which included food items, toiletries, medications, and medical equipment, forms part of the association’s corporate social responsibility to support the welfare of inmates.
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) in Navrongo has donated food items, medication and medical equipment to the Navrongo Central Prison to help improve the welfare of inmates.
The donation, which took place on Monday, April 13, forms part of the association’s corporate social responsibility aimed at supporting vulnerable groups within society.
Speaking with Mike FM during the presentation, the Treasurer of the association, Belinda Berdie, explained the motivation behind the gesture.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we decided to make voluntary contributions and present them to the inmates to show our love and care for them.” She said.
She added that the association remains committed to undertaking similar initiatives as part of its contribution to societal development.
Items donated included bags of rice, assorted drinks, toiletries, medications, and medical equipment such as blood pressure monitors, infusion sets, glucometers among others.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Regional Chaplain, Rev. DSP Joachim Bogre, expressed profound gratitude to UTAG for the timely intervention.
“We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation for this kind donation. It has come at a time when we need these items to supplement what the government provides for the inmates.” He stated.
Rev. Bogre noted that the gesture goes beyond material support, emphasizing that it reflects the biblical call to care for those in prison.
He also offered prayers for blessings upon members of the association for their generosity.
