Kassena-Nankana West District supports 70 Persons with disabilities with GH₵210,000 and livelihood items
The support, which includes cash, deep freezers, and motorised tricycles, is aimed at empowering persons with disabilities to improve their livelihoods and achieve greater economic independence.
The Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly, through its Department of Social Welfare, has provided financial and material support to 70 persons with disabilities to enhance their livelihoods and promote economic independence.
The support package, valued at GH₵210,000, included cash disbursements, nine deep freezers, and seven motorised tricycles.
Speaking at a brief ceremony held on April 17 in Paga, the District Director of Social Welfare, Ali Zakari, said the intervention is aimed at cushioning beneficiaries and empowering them to improve their living conditions.
District Chief Executive Stephen Aeke Akurugo, who addressed the beneficiaries, described the initiative as a reaffirmation of the Assembly’s commitment to inclusivity, equity, and social justice.
“The Government of Ghana, through the District Assembly Common Fund, has made provisions to support persons with disabilities to improve livelihoods, enhance independence, and promote dignity among our brothers and sisters.” He said.
Akurugo commended the Social Welfare Department and other stakeholders for ensuring a fair and transparent selection process and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the support.
“I encourage you to utilise this assistance effectively and let it serve as a stepping stone towards greater independence and self-reliance.” He added.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the intervention and pledged to use the support to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
