Paga Customs Division commander calls on govt to urgently dualize the Navrongo–Paga road
The Customs Commander says increasing truck traffic along the Navrongo–Paga corridor is causing severe congestion and poses safety risks to residents and officers.
The Divisional Commander of the Paga Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority Martin Dugbley, has called on government to urgently dualize the Navrongo–Paga road to address growing traffic congestion caused by heavy trucks movements along the corridor.
Speaking in a media interview on April 22, Dugbley said the road has become increasingly congested due to the high volume of trucks using the route to Burkina Faso and Mali on a daily basis.
“Tankers, fuel tankers, gas tankers ply this route to Burkina Faso and Mali. In fact, in a day, on average, we clear between 100 and 120 gas tankers.” He revealed.
He warned that the situation poses significant risks to both residents and customs officers, stressing that the current state of the road is not suitable for such heavy traffic.

“The danger that it poses to the town folks and even the officers cannot be underestimated,” he said.
Dugbley noted that while his officers work extended hours sometimes closing as late as 10 p.m or 11 p.m. to facilitate the movement of goods, congestion continues to build up due to structural challenges beyond their control.
He however explained that a major cause of the traffic situation is the limited space on the Burkina Faso side of the border, which is unable to accommodate the volume of trucks arriving from Tema Port.
“About 90% of it is caused by lack of space across at the Burkina Faso side to contain the volumes. So we always have to hold them to allow them to clear before we can allow most of them to exit, thereby creating traffic on our side.” He stated.
