NDC Communicator calls for continuity in government projects, praises improvements to Free SHS
Norbert Achibase urges successive governments to continue inherited projects while praising efforts to strengthen the Free SHS programme despite earlier implementation challenges.
A member of the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Norbert Achibase, has called for the introduction of a national policy that would compel successive governments to continue and complete projects initiated by previous administrations before embarking on new ones.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, May 18, Achibase said Ghana’s development would accelerate if incoming governments prioritised continuity in governance instead of abandoning ongoing projects after assuming office.
According to him, a legal framework enforcing continuity in government projects would help reduce the waste of state resources and ensure steady national development.
“I have always said that if I had the power, every successive government taking over from an outgoing government would be compelled to continue projects and initiatives started by the previous administration before introducing their own plans,” he stated.
Achibase made the remarks during a discussion on the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy following comments by the Minister for Education indicating that the programme is yielding positive results across the country.
He commended the current government for choosing to improve the Free SHS policy instead of cancelling it despite the criticisms and implementation challenges associated with the programme.
According to him, although the policy was introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, it encountered several challenges, including the double-track system, inadequate infrastructure, and overcrowding in some schools.
He maintained that improving existing national programmes rather than discontinuing them would better serve the interests of Ghanaians and contribute to sustainable national progress.
