Daniel Amaatu calls for accountability to revive community self-help projects

Former Assembly Member Daniel Amaatu says transparency, accountability and unity are crucial to restoring public confidence and reviving community self-help projects.

Former Assembly Member for the Farinsa Electoral Area in the Builsa North Municipality, Daniel Amaatu, has expressed concern over the growing decline in community self-help projects, blaming the situation on a lack of accountability and increasing political interference.

According to him, many community members are becoming reluctant to contribute financially or offer their support towards development projects because they often do not receive proper accounts of how funds are used.

He explained that transparency and accountability are essential in building trust among residents, stressing that when community members are kept informed about how resources are managed, they are more willing to contribute to development initiatives.

Speaking on Mike FM TENGOMISIYERIKA DALONG on Sunday, June 28, Amaatu also noted that political interference and excessive partisanship have become major obstacles to community development.

He said divisions along political lines are preventing many communities from initiating or completing important projects that are meant to improve the lives of residents.

He urged community leaders and development committees to remain transparent in the management of public contributions and to put the interests of their communities above political affiliations.

According to him, development should be a collective responsibility, and communities can achieve more when residents unite behind a common goal rather than allowing politics to influence local initiatives.

Amaatu called on residents, opinion leaders, and stakeholders to work together in an atmosphere of trust, accountability, and unity to ensure that community-driven projects succeed and contribute to the overall development of the Builsa North Municipality.
