Upper East Regional Minister Inspects Collapsed Kongo Bridge, Assures Residents of Immediate Intervention

Regional Minister says government will construct a temporary diversion to restore movement while plans are finalised for a permanent reconstruction of the collapsed bridge.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, together with the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tempane and engineers from the Department of Feeder Roads, has inspected the collapsed Kongo Bridge in the Tempane District.

The bridge collapse has cut off the Kongo community from the rest of the district, making movement and access to essential services difficult.

Addressing residents during the inspection, Hon. Akamugri said he had been dispatched by President John Dramani Mahama to assess the situation and assure the community of the government’s commitment to resolving the problem.

As an immediate measure, he announced that the Department of Feeder Roads would construct a diversion to restore movement while plans are made for a permanent solution.

The Minister noted that the bridge was originally constructed during the administration of former President Jerry John Rawlings and later rehabilitated by President John Mahama during his first term in office. He assured residents that President Mahama remains committed to addressing their plight and restoring the vital link as quickly as possible.
