The Headmaster of Azantilow Senior High Technical School in the Builsa North Municipality, Robertson Adiak, has revealed that inadequate staff accommodation has been affecting punctuality and effective teaching at the school.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony on April 17 for the construction of 3 separate 2-unit-2-bedroom semi-detached staff bungalows, Adiak said many teachers commute long distances daily, often arriving late and leaving early due to the challenges involved.
“Most of our staff commute over long distances at their own cost, leaving home very early and returning very lat.” He said.
According to him, the lack of on-campus accommodation has placed significant strain on teachers, limiting their ability to fully support students both academically and through mentorship.
“If most of them are resident on campus, it means we are investing in punctuality, stability, and academic excellence.” He emphasized.
Adiak also stressed that teacher welfare directly impacts student performance, urging stakeholders to prioritize investments in accommodation and other essential infrastructure.
“The welfare of teachers has a positive impact on the performance of students. If teachers are given decent accommodation, they will deliver very well.” He added.
The construction of the staff bungalows forms part GETFund intervention to address educational infrastructure deficits across the country.
