Dr. Zachary Pealore urges Upper East youth to be determined in pursuing entrepreneurship
UDS lecturer encourages Upper East youth to embrace resilience, seek mentorship and explore available financing opportunities to build successful businesses.
Business man and lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Dr. Zachary Pealore, has urged young people in the Upper East Region, particularly those in Navrongo, to cultivate determination and resilience when venturing into business.
According to him, determination is one of the most important qualities for entrepreneurs, given the risks, uncertainties and challenges associated with starting and sustaining a business.
Dr. Pealore made the remarks during a Business Development training workshop he organised for the youth of Nayagnia at the Nayagnia Junior High School on Saturday, August 1.
He explained that the initiative was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge on business development and expansion while exposing them to the realities of Ghana’s business ecosystem.
“Today’s programme was to engage the youth on available business opportunities and guide them on how to initiate their own businesses, while also helping them understand how the business ecosystem works,” he said.
Dr. Pealore encouraged participants to remain focused and determined when starting a business, stressing that they should seek advice from experienced entrepreneurs to refine their ideas and improve their chances of success.
“Starting a business requires many things, but one of the most important is determination. You need to remain focused and committed to get your idea off the ground. Share your ideas with people, especially those already in business, so they can help you shape and improve them,” he advised.
He noted that although start-up capital is important, lack of funding should not discourage aspiring entrepreneurs from pursuing their business dreams. He pointed to personal savings, support from family and friends, and digital financing platforms as some of the avenues available for raising capital.
Dr. Pealore further urged the youth to be willing to take calculated risks and face business challenges with courage and perseverance.
“In Ghana, many challenges confront people who want to start businesses, but those challenges should not discourage anyone. Even successful entrepreneurs like Bill Gates encountered difficulties before achieving success,” he said.
Officials from the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and Naara Community Bank PLC also participated in the workshop, taking participants through the various financial products and opportunities available to support start-ups and small businesses.
The banking officials encouraged participants to take advantage of the financial services and business support offered by their institutions to transform their ideas into sustainable enterprises.
Participants expressed appreciation to Dr. Pealore for organising the training, describing it as an eye-opening experience that had broadened their understanding of entrepreneurship and business development.
One participant, Blessed Abobasi said the workshop had changed his perception of doing business.
“I never knew that registering a business and obtaining the necessary business documentation could improve your chances of accessing financial support from banks and other institutions. This training has given me valuable exposure and inspired me to turn my hobbies into viable businesses and register them properly,” Abobasi said.
