PTA donates brand-new mahindra pickup to Awe SHTS
The PTA of Awe Senior High Technical School has donated a brand-new Mahindra pickup to improve school administration, emergency response and transportation.
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Awe Senior High Technical School (Awesco) has donated a brand-new Mahindra pickup to the school to facilitate administrative services and enhance the movement of staff and students.
Awe SHTS, popularly known as the “Royals,” a name associated with the school’s history as the brainchild of the then Navro Pio, the Paramount Chief of Navrongo, has been without an official pickup or bus for close to ten years. The school has, over the period, relied largely on a tricycle, popularly known as a “motor king,” as well as the benevolence of a few staff members resident on campus to transport sick students to health facilities.
The absence of an official vehicle has also placed considerable pressure on the Headmaster, Rev. Augustine Atanga, who has often had to use his personal vehicle and, at times, a motorbike to undertake the day-to-day administrative activities of the school.
Against this background, the PTA’s donation of the Mahindra pickup is expected to provide significant relief and strengthen the school’s capacity to respond to administrative and emergency transportation needs.
The Headmaster formally presented the vehicle to the Regional Director of Education (RDE), Mr. Razak Z. Abdul-Korah, on Monday, September 14, 2026, for his blessings. The presentation was witnessed by some members of the Management of the Regional Education Directorate.
In his remarks, the RDE expressed appreciation to the school’s PTA for its continuous support towards the development and wellbeing of the school. He commended the PTA for the intervention and urged the school to ensure that the vehicle is put to its intended use.
The RDE also tasked the driver to take good care of the vehicle and observe all road safety regulations, particularly the prescribed speed limits, to ensure the safety of occupants and prolong the lifespan of the vehicle.
Rev. Augustine Atanga expressed his elation at the kind gesture from the PTA and thanked its members for responding to one of the school’s pressing needs. He assured the RDE and the PTA that the vehicle would be put to good use in support of the effective administration of the school and the welfare of students.
Despite the intervention, Awe SHTS continues to face other infrastructural challenges, including inadequate teachers’ bungalows, dormitory facilities and classroom blocks. The school therefore continues to require support from stakeholders to address these critical needs.
Awe SHTS has, however, continued to distinguish itself academically, particularly in the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) competition, where it has been one of the notable schools from the region. The school’s performance in the competition has been particularly encouraging since Rev. Atanga assumed the administration of the school in 2021.
The donation of the pickup is a significant demonstration of the important role of the PTA and other stakeholders in complementing government efforts to provide the necessary resources for effective teaching, learning and school administration.
