St. Vincent de Paul Society supports vulnerable people with food items, provisions
Society supports over 500 vulnerable people across nine communities with food, shelter and livelihood assistance
The St. Vincent de Paul Society at the Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Minor Basilica Conference in Navrongo has supported vulnerable people with prepared meals, food items and other provisions as part of efforts to improve the wellbeing of needy people in the community.
The beneficiaries included persons with visual and physical disabilities, the elderly without support, widows, orphans and other vulnerable groups.
The Society currently supports more than 500 needy people across nine communities.
This came to light during an event organised to climax this year’s Feast Day celebration of the Society, held on Sunday, September 27, in Navrongo.
Speaking in an interview with Mike FM, President of the Society, Rolanda Logonia, said this year’s activities focused on providing practical support to vulnerable people while encouraging members to deepen their commitment to charitable service.
“We held a one-week programme. We had retreats, talks, clean-up exercises around the church premises and prepared packaged food for our people, as well as supporting them with rice, soap, sandals and other items,” she said.
Logonia said the Society received support from its patrons and members of the church through voluntary donations, which enabled it to assist vulnerable people.
She explained that the Society’s interventions go beyond the provision of food and clothing to include shelter, educational support, livelihood assistance and skills training.
According to her, the Society has this year constructed three rooms for people who had no place to lay their heads, while providing educational support to 15 senior high school students and 20 basic school pupils.
The Society also provides business support to some beneficiaries and offers skills training and apprenticeship opportunities to young people who are unable to continue their education.
Logonia urged the public to prioritise the needs of vulnerable people and appealed for increased support to enable the Society to extend its interventions to more people in need.
Church leaders who attended the event prayed for the beneficiaries and encouraged them to make good use of the support while trusting in God for improved circumstances.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Society for the assistance and prayed for continued provision and support to enable them improve their living conditions.
