The Headmistress of Nabango Senior High Technical School in the Kassena-Nankana West District, Clemencia Zizinga, has revealed the extent of infrastructure challenges facing the school, disclosing that students were forced to use second-hand furniture obtained through appeals to other institutions.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a two-storey classroom block on April 15, funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund, Zizinga described the intervention as long overdue.
“Today, I think I’m the happiest woman in this Nabango Senior High Technical School.” She said.
She recounted how the school struggled for basic learning facilities, including desks for students.
“We had to go and beg for used furniture, and that is what the students are currently using. If not, they would have been sitting on the floor.” She disclosed.

According to her, the lack of infrastructure has severely affected student enrollment and retention, with many students declining admission after seeing the state of facilities.
“When students come and see the infrastructure, they go away… some even take admission and leave. They say they cannot complete JHS and come back to JHS.” She lamented.
She, however, appealed for additional support, including dormitories, staff accommodation, water, electricity, and sanitation facilities, to help improve teaching and learning outcomes.
The construction of the classroom block forms part of ongoing GETFund projects aimed at addressing critical infrastructure gaps in schools across the country.
