Regentropfen University to prioritize entrepreneurship training to empower students – President

Rev. Fr. Dr. Moses Asaah says the university will integrate entrepreneurship training into all academic programmes to equip students to create jobs, tackle youth unemployment and drive economic development in the Upper East Region.

The President of Regentropfen University College in Namoo, Bongo District, Rev. Fr. Dr. Moses Asaah, has announced plans to make entrepreneurship training a key component of the institution’s academic programmes to equip students with the skills to become job creators after graduation.

He said the initiative, which would be implemented through the university’s Business Studies Department, was aimed at addressing youth unemployment, reducing rural-urban migration and discouraging young people from engaging in illicit activities, including illegal mining, in their quest for economic opportunities.

Rev. Fr. Asaah made the announcement during the university’s 10th anniversary celebration held on Saturday October 10, on the institution’s campus at Namoo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

Addressing the gathering, he said the university intended to transform itself into an entrepreneurship hub where students would acquire practical business skills to enable them to establish enterprises and create employment opportunities for themselves and others.

“We want to turn this institution into an entrepreneurship hub. All students of the institution will pursue entrepreneurship training that will make them job creators after completion,” he said.

Rev. Fr. Asaah noted that the Upper East Region had enormous economic potential that could be harnessed to create sustainable livelihoods, generate employment and reduce poverty if young people were adequately equipped to take advantage of available opportunities.

He said the university, since its establishment a decade ago, had produced graduates who were contributing to society through their knowledge, skills and commitment to serving humanity.

“We produce pacesetters, people who are ready and able to think and act differently. A product of Regentropfen is a problem solver and creator of jobs and wealth,” he said.

The university president acknowledged the challenges the institution had encountered over the years but said it had remained committed to its vision and continued to make meaningful contributions to education and human development.

Looking ahead, he said the next phase of the university’s development would focus on expanding its academic programmes, strengthening research and establishing a medical programme supported by a proposed hospital.

“Within the next ten years, we intend to begin a medical programme anchored on our intended hospital. We will expand postgraduate studies and research and deepen industry and international partnerships,” he said.

Rev. Fr. Asaah appealed for the speedy granting of a charter to the institution, explaining that it would support its aspirations for further academic and institutional development.

He expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of the area, management, staff, students, alumni, parents and guardians for their contributions to the university’s growth over the past decade.

He also acknowledged the support of the University for Development Studies (UDS), the institution’s affiliate university, as well as its academic and industry partners, including the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), Stiftung Regentropfen, its partners in Germany, benefactors and regulatory bodies.

The anniversary celebration was held under the theme, “From Vision to Reality: A Decade of Promoting Talents and Shaping Future Minds.”

It brought together students, staff, traditional leaders, the Upper East Regional Minister, the Bongo District Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency and members of the academic community to celebrate the institution’s achievements and reflect on its future.
