NIA cracks down on extortion at Galaka Centre, six staff arrested
NIA arrests six registration staff over alleged extortion at Galaka Centre and terminates seven others for allegedly failing to report the misconduct.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has arrested six staff members and terminated the appointments of seven others following allegations of extortion during the recently concluded Free Ghana Card registration exercise for children aged between six and 14 at the Galaka Registration Centre in the Upper East Region.
According to the NIA, the six staff members were identified by parents of applicants as having allegedly demanded money before registering their children.
The Authority said the suspects had been arrested by the Bawku West District Police and were assisting with ongoing investigations.

In a press release issued on Thursday October 29, the NIA disclosed that it had also terminated the appointments of seven other members of the registration team following an internal review.
The seven were reportedly found to have been aware of the alleged misconduct but failed to report it to the appropriate authorities.
The NIA has reiterated that all registration activities must be conducted in accordance with approved procedures, stressing that no staff member is authorised to demand unauthorised payments from applicants or their parents.
The Authority further assured the public that it takes allegations of misconduct seriously and would continue to take appropriate disciplinary measures to safeguard the integrity of its registration processes and ensure fair and professional service delivery.
It has also urged members of the public to report suspected misconduct through its official reporting channels.
