The Bolgatanga High Court has ruled that the decision by the Governing Council of the Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) to remove its Vice-Chancellor, Prof Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, from office was illegal.
In its judgment, the court found that the Governing Council did not have the required quorum when it met to take the decision to terminate Prof Alnaa’s appointment as Vice-Chancellor.
The court also declared illegal the formation of a Special Investigative Committee which was constituted to investigate procurement-related matters involving the university.
According to the court, the decision to remove Prof Alnaa and two other senior officers based on the committee’s work was therefore unlawful.
The court consequently fully granted the application for Certiorari filed by Prof Alnaa challenging his removal as Vice-Chancellor.
The ruling effectively nullifies the decisions that led to the removal of Prof. Alnaa and the two other senior officers, paving the way for their return to office.
Prof Samuel Erasmus Alnaa and the two other affected senior officers are therefore expected to resume their respective positions at Bolgatanga Technical University.
