UTAS Senior Staff Association marks annual week with campus clean-up exercise
The UTAS chapter of SSA-UoG has marked its 2026 Association Week with a campus clean-up exercise, with medical screening and recreational activities scheduled for staff and the wider university community.
The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) chapter has organised a campus-wide clean-up exercise as part of activities marking its 2026 Senior Staff Association Week.
The exercise, held on Thursday October 29, brought together senior staff who used brooms, rakes and wheelbarrows to clean the university’s main streets, campus surroundings and entrance.

Vice Chairman of the association’s UTAS chapter, Francis Bugase, said the initiative was intended to promote a clean university environment and contribute to the institution’s development.
“Cleanliness is next to godliness. Therefore, we took it upon ourselves as staff of SSA to clean the campus of UTAS,” he said.
Bugase added that the association had planned other activities for the week, including a medical screening exercise at the university’s hospital on Friday, October 30.
The screening is expected to cover breast cancer awareness and screening, blood pressure checks and general health assessments. The association has invited staff and other members of the university community to participate.

Chairman of the association, Abubakari Sulemana, said the medical screening was intended to encourage staff to know their health status and take appropriate steps to maintain their well-being.
“The health of every staff is very, very important. So it’s good we know our health status as part of our week celebration for the year 2026,” he said.
Sulemana also indicated that members of the wider university community could join the screening exercise, advising those from outside the staff association to bring their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards.
The week’s activities are also expected to include recreational games and a get-together following the medical screening.
The association says the activities form part of its efforts to promote staff welfare, encourage community participation and support the development of UTAS.
