Angel Care Foundation targets one million baby blanket distribution across Africa

Angel Care Foundation founder Olivia Tchanque says the organisation aims to provide one million baby blankets to newborns across Africa within five years.

Founder of the Angel Care Foundation, Olivia Tchanque, has unveiled an ambitious plan to distribute one million baby blankets to newborns across Africa over the next five years, as part of efforts to promote dignity, care and protection for every child at birth.

Speaking during a humanitarian outreach in Sirigu in the Upper East Region on Sunday, June 28, Tchanque said the initiative is driven by the belief that every newborn deserves to be welcomed into the world with warmth, love and dignity.

“The blankets are presented at the very moment a baby is born in the hospital. We wrap every newborn in these blankets to signify love, care and dignity for every child,” she said.

Originally from Cameroon and now based in the United States, Tchanque explained that the initiative is inspired by her Christian faith and a lifelong passion for supporting children and vulnerable families.

She disclosed that the Angel Care Foundation plans to partner with hospitals across Ghana before extending the programme to other African countries.

“Our target is to reach hospitals throughout Ghana within this year. Thereafter, we will expand to other African countries because this is a project for the entire continent. Over the next five years, our goal is to distribute one million blankets across Africa,” she stated.

Tchanque appealed to hospitals, corporate organisations, development partners and individuals to support the initiative, noting that achieving such an ambitious target would require collective action.

“This is not the responsibility of one person or one organisation alone. It requires all of us working together to ensure that every child in Africa receives a blanket at birth,” she said.

The announcement was made during a joint humanitarian outreach organised by the Angel Care Foundation and the Dr. Kenneth Elvis Anewenah Foundation.

As part of the exercise, the two organisations donated baby blankets and other relief items to the Mother of Mercy Babies Home and the Martyrs of Uganda Hospital in Sirigu to support the care of vulnerable children, newborns and nursing mothers.
