Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly denies blanket ban on events beyond 8pm
Assembly clarifies that its by-law restricts minors under 18 from attending social gatherings beyond midnight, not adult events after 8:00pm.
The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has denied reports that it has imposed a blanket 8:00pm deadline on events and social gatherings within the municipality.
The Assembly said the reports, attributed to its Presiding Member and circulated widely on social media, do not represent the official position of the Assembly.
In a press release dated August 30, the Assembly explained that it has a by-law concerning the prohibition of certain nocturnal events and ceremonies, including passing-out ceremonies and launching events.
However, Management clarified that a revision to the by-law in September 2024 specifically addressed minors under 18 years, prohibiting them from attending social gatherings and ceremonies beyond midnight.
It therefore stressed that the by-law does not constitute a blanket ban preventing events involving adults from continuing beyond 8:00pm.
The Assembly further stated that, in line with the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, it cannot introduce by-laws or resolutions that are inconsistent with existing government policy.
Management has consequently called on the media to give the clarification the needed publicity to ensure that the public is accurately informed about the Assembly’s position.
