Over 1,100 households benefit as Assembly expands social protection and support for vulnerable groups

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has disbursed a total of GH¢3,145,554.00 to 1,128 vulnerable households under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme from 2025 to date.

Municipal Chief Executive Roland Atanga Ayoo disclosed this during his address to stakeholders as part of activities marking his one year in office.

According to him, the payments covered seven cycles, with beneficiary households receiving between GH¢320.00 and GH¢530.00 per cycle depending on eligibility.

“A total of seven payment cycles were conducted… with grant amounts ranging from GH¢320.00 for the least and GH¢530.00 for the maximum per each payment cycle,” he stated.

The MCE further revealed that the Assembly has undertaken a reassessment and expansion of the LEAP programme to include more vulnerable households across the municipality.

He noted that 20 existing LEAP communities were reassessed, while an additional 69 new communities were enrolled in the expansion exercise, identifying 5,072 potential beneficiary households currently awaiting final validation and enrolment.

In addition to LEAP interventions, the Assembly also disbursed GH¢223,732.22 from the 3 percent District Assemblies Common Fund allocation to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

“The reassessment of LEAP households was conducted within the period under review and a total of 20 LEAP communities were part of the reassessment exercise, and expansion was also conducted in 69 new communities.” He said.

Ayoo indicated that 105 individuals and five organizations benefited from the support, which included business capital, equipment such as sewing machines and freezers, educational assistance, and medical support.

He stressed that the Assembly remains committed to inclusive development, ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind in the municipality’s growth agenda.

“We remain committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.” He emphasized.

The interventions form part of broader social protection efforts aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing poverty levels within the municipality.
