Castro Senyalah wins prestigious Journalist of the Year at 4th Upper East GJA Awards
He also won two other categories, including Best Conflict and Security Journalist and Best Good Governance and Accountability Journalist.
General Manager of Mike FM and Upper East Regional Correspondent for Media General’s TV3, Castro Senyalah, has been adjudged the Overall Best Journalist for the year under review at the 4th Upper East Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards.
Senyalah’s investigative report on the abandonment of the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam Project, which provoked urgent public discourse and spurred a renewed government response, together with his courageous and ethically grounded coverage of the Bawku conflict, earned him the prestigious award.
He also won two other categories, including Best Conflict and Security Journalist and Best Good Governance and Accountability Journalist.
In a short speech, Senyalah called for peace and unity in the region, urging stakeholders to work collectively to restore stability in conflict-prone areas.
“Without peace, we cannot go anywhere. It’s only when there is peace that we will get the development we deserve in the region.” He said.
The 4th Upper East GJA Awards, held on Friday October 10, at the Blue-Sky Hotel in Bolgatanga, honored journalists across various categories in the region.
A1 Radio’s Humul-Khrusum Tahiru was named the Female Journalist of the Year and also took home the award for Best Gender Journalist. Gilbert Azeem Tiroog of the Ghana News Agency won Most Promising Journalist of the Year and Best Water and Sanitation Journalist. Moses Appiah of A1 Radio also received two awards, Best Health Journalist and Best Climate Change Journalist.
Other winners on the night included Peter Agengre of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (Best Education Journalist), Joshua Asaah of A1 Radio (Best Investigative Journalist), Nicholas Azabire of Dreamz FM (Best Human Rights Journalist), and Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnews (Best Environment Journalist), Halidu Dasmani of Adom TV, Best Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Journalist.
The remaining awardees were David Azure of A1 Radio (Best Agriculture Journalist), Gladys Apuweni of GBC (Tourism, Arts and Culture Journalist), Abagna Jose Nelson (Sports Journalist of the Year), and Caroline Abisiku of Bolgatanga Technical University (Student Journalist of the Year).
