The Assemblyman for the Chiana-Wurunia Electoral Area, Abongpari Vincent, is calling for an urgent increase in police and military presence in Chiana following a daylight robbery at the town’s market on Thursday May 23.

The robbery, which left traders counting heavy financial losses and residents deeply shaken, is the latest in a series of criminal incidents plaguing the area.

Speaking on News Beat on Mike FM, Abongpari described the insecurity situation as alarming and said heightened security presence is the only way to deter the frequent robbery attacks affecting the town and surrounding communities.

“Our people are living in fear. We need more police and at least one of two soldiers to help because this is not the first time the armed robbers have attacked the town.”

Residents of Chiana were left shaken by the incident.

He also appealed to residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals and activities.

“We must work together as a community with the security agencies. We are told one of the robbers was even in town earlier to know the place well before the attack,” the Assemblyman added.

Meanwhile, security source say investigations into the robbery are underway, and security agencies are pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators.
