Emmanuel Awinimi was seen campaigning against the party on December 6 – Lawyer Namoo clarifies sanction

Lawyer Namoo recounted that he received a report on the eve of the December 7 elections alleging that Awinimi was seen campaigning in the company of members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Anthony Namoo, has clarified that the party’s Communication Officer for the Pusiga Constituency, Emmanuel Awinimi, was sanctioned for campaigning against the party ahead of the 2024 general elections.

This clarification follows accusations by Awinimi that his removal from office was masterminded by Lawyer Namoo and the Regional Secretary, Elvis Atia Figo, out of personal vendetta.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday April 4, Lawyer Namoo recounted that he received a report on the eve of the December 7 elections alleging that Awinimi was seen campaigning in the company of members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“On 6th December, I received a call about him (Awinimi) was moving into the company of NDC people campaigning against the party. I called him, and he did not deny it, so I told the committee about what he did.” He said.

Lawyer Namoo alleged that Awinimi had told the committee that he was on an errand for a traditional leader in the company of one of the chief’s linguists, who happens to be a leading member of the NDC.

“He said Pusiga Naba sent him to go around the community that night and would share what information on that because it was privileged information.”  He added.

Addressing allegations of similar misconduct by the NPP’s Pusiga Constituency Chairman, Namoo explained that the chairman merely misspoke during a campaign event when he suggested voters could choose the NPP parliamentary candidate and vote for the NDC’s presidential candidate.

He clarified that, unlike in Awinimi’s case, no formal petition was filed against the constituency chairman since the only petition submitted was not accepted because the petitioner was not from the region. He added that elders from the Pusiga Constituency later intervened and defended the chairman’s actions.

“The incident about the constituency chairman at the Sarabogo Primary School, he spoke in broad daylight. If the chairman wanted to campaign against the presidential candidate, he would not do it in broad daylight; clearly, he did not speak well.

“Pusiga Constituency elders on 15 July 2024 sent a delegation to the regional executive team, indicating the chairman had misspoken while responding to a question at a campaign ground.” He added.
