Evans Adochim condemns invigilators aiding BECE malpractice, says it promotes dishonesty among pupils

Teachers should prepare students to rely on their own abilities — Evans Adochim

The former Assembly Member for the Kori Electoral Area in the Bulsa North Municipality, Evans Adochim, has strongly condemned the involvement of some examination supervisors and invigilators in reported cases of malpractice during this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), describing the situation as a dangerous lesson in dishonesty for students.

According to him, when invigilators and examination officials assist candidates to cheat, they undermine the moral values they are expected to instill in the younger generation.

Speaking on Mike FM’s current affairs programme, Tengomisiyerika Dalong, on Sunday, May 10, Adochim stated that such conduct weakens discipline, hard work, and integrity within Ghana’s education system.

“When the very people entrusted with supervising and guiding students during examinations are the ones aiding malpractice, it sends a wrong signal that dishonesty is acceptable in society,” he said.

He stressed that teachers and examination officials are expected to serve as role models who promote fairness, honesty, and self-confidence among students, rather than encouraging cheating for personal interests.

Adochim further called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to strengthen monitoring and supervision during examinations to effectively tackle malpractice and restore public confidence in the education system.

He also urged teachers to adequately prepare students to become self-reliant and confident during examinations instead of creating dependency on external assistance.

In addition, he advised students to take their studies seriously and avoid any form of examination malpractice, emphasizing that genuine success can only be achieved through hard work and dedication.

Adochim noted that promoting honesty, discipline, and integrity in schools remains critical to building a responsible and competent future generation for the country.
