GJA calls for entries for 5th Upper East Journalism Awards
Upper East GJA opens entries for 2026 journalism awards, sets August 30 deadline

The Upper East Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened entries for the 5th Upper East GJA Awards, scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026.
The awards seek to recognise outstanding journalistic work produced in the Upper East Region, with entries open to GJA members and journalists whose memberships are pending and who work with recognised media houses in the region.
Eligible works must have been published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
The awards will cover 16 categories, including Journalist of the Year, Female Journalist of the Year, Most Promising Journalist of the Year, Agriculture Reporting, Health Reporting, Education, Gender, Disability, Child Protection, Mining and Natural Resources, Conflict and Security Reporting, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Water and Sanitation, Sports Journalist of the Year, Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Environment.
The GJA said the Journalist of the Year, Female Journalist of the Year and Most Promising Journalist of the Year awards would be selected from winners of the various category awards.
Journalists working in print, electronic and online media, as well as programme hosts and presenters in the Upper East Region, are eligible to participate.
Each entrant may submit works in a maximum of two categories, with no more than two published works allowed per category. A single work cannot be entered in more than one category. Entrants are also required to submit clear and original links to their published works, while radio and television journalists must submit original audio recordings or video links of their broadcasts respectively.
Entries must clearly indicate the category, the entrant’s name, media house, address and telephone number. Entrants are also required to submit a clear, quality and publishable bust photograph with a white background.
According to the announcement, submission of entries opens on Monday, August 10, 2026, and closes at 5:00 p.m. on August 30, 2026. Entries are to be submitted via uergjaawards@gmail.com.
