GNFS saves nearly GH₵480 million in property from fires in first quarter of 2026

The Fire Service attributes the increase in salvaged property to improved fire management strategies and enhanced operational efficiency.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has indicated that its operations contributed to a significant property protection, with nearly GH₵480 million worth of assets salvaged from fires in the first quarter of 2026.

The Service in a Press Statement released on April 21, reports that the value of salvaged property surged to GHȻ 479,457,385.00, representing 217.47% increase from GHȻ 151,026,471.40 recorded during the same period in 2025.

The service attributed this leap to improved operational efficiency and fire containment strategies. “This remarkable rise reflects GNFS’s improved fire management strategies and the growing efficiency in preventing extensive damage despite its numerous operational challenges.”

However, the gains come alongside a concerning increase in the cost of damage, which rose by 28.7% to GHȻ 215,479,467.00 in 2026.

“Despite this rise, the substantial increase in salvaged property value demonstrates the GNFS’s enhanced effectiveness in property preservation.” The statement said

The statement added that as part of the GNFS strategy going forward, it plans to expand public education on fire prevention and safe handling of household appliances and fuels.
