I’m driven by a passion to see women thrive in politics – Ophelia Aovare
Reflecting on her journey, she noted that her passion for politics stemmed from resilience and determination, particularly after becoming a widow at a young age.
The incumbent Women’s Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency and aspiring Upper East Regional Women’s Organiser, Ophelia Aovare, has reiterated her deep commitment to the development and empowerment of women in politics.
Aovare, who is seeking to take on a greater leadership role within the party, highlighted how her personal experiences have shaped her dedication to women’s advancement. Reflecting on her journey, she noted that her passion for politics stemmed from resilience and determination, particularly after becoming a widow at a young age.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on May 21, Aovare underscored the importance of supporting women in politics, emphasising that her drive to uplift women has continued to fuel her political ambitions.
“For me, it is my passion for women’s development that is pushing me to go higher and higher in politics,” she said.
As a Regional Women Organiser hopeful, Aovare expressed her commitment to grassroots engagement, stating that she intends to work closely with women at the community level and ensure they are heard and included in decision-making processes.
“The concerns are that when you walk to them, they will feel belonging. But if elections are over, it is only when you need a vote that you go to them. We don’t do that. You need to at least find time to go and meet with them. You need to know their problems.
“Whatever you can do, whatever resources you manage to get, even if it’s not enough, let them also feel part of that small cake you got. Then they know that when the bigger one comes, they stand a chance of also benefiting.” She added.
