James Konzabre promises results-oriented secretariat ahead of NDC Upper East Regional elections
NDC Regional Secretary hopeful James Gbandan Konzabre pledges decentralised resources, improved coordination and a digitised dues payment system to strengthen grassroots structures
James Gbandan Konzabre, a contender for the Upper East Regional Secretary position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to establish a results-oriented secretariat that strengthens coordination between the party’s grassroots structures and the national leadership.
He said his vision was to build an open and functional secretariat that effectively coordinates activities across constituencies, collaborates with all organs of the party and ensures the regular distribution of resources to constituency and branch levels.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday October 22, Konzabre stressed that adequately resourcing the grassroots was essential to maintaining the party’s effectiveness and strengthening its structures.
“My preoccupation, God willing, when I am given the nod, will be to ensure that resources are decentralised to the constituencies and branches. It is there that the work is actually done,” he said.
He also proposed a decentralised and digitised dues payment system to ensure that financial resources are fairly distributed across the party’s structures to support effective administration.
“If a member pays dues in a month, the money should not just go into one central pool. There should be a formula that ensures that all the structures have something to work with,” he added.
Konzabre, a tutor at St. John Bosco College of Education in Navrongo, said his experience in party administration and local governance had prepared him to lead the regional secretariat.
He cited his service in the Talensi District Assembly, where he was first appointed as a government representative, later elected as an Assembly Member and subsequently served as Presiding Member.
His experience within the NDC also includes serving as a branch secretary, a coordinator for the party’s youth wing and a campaign coordinator for Talensi East.
He has also served as a coalition agent for parliamentary and presidential elections in the area across four electoral cycles.
Additionally, he has served on the party’s Regional Youth Working Committee and has coordinated the Upper East Regional chapter of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network for the past 16 years.
He said these experiences had equipped him with the requisite knowledge and leadership skills to serve as Regional Secretary, appealing to delegates to support his bid.
On communicating the achievements of the NDC government, Konzabre acknowledged that more needed to be done to ensure citizens were adequately informed about the government’s policies, programmes and interventions.
“Our major challenge is that we are not communicating enough. We have done a lot, yet some people do not appear to know what we have done. We need to ensure that people hear about the work the NDC is carrying out,” he said.
He urged party members to rally behind his vision of building a responsive and well-resourced regional secretariat capable of strengthening the party’s structures and improving its electoral fortunes in the Upper East Region.
