Mahama Ayariga assures resumption of Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulmakom Road Project
The Majority Leader says government is working to restore the loan facility that funded the project, paving the way for the contractor to return to site and resume construction works.
The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has assured that work on the Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulmakom Road will soon resume, following efforts by government to restore funding for the project.
Speaking during a sod cutting event for a number of projects earmarked for the municipality on April 14, 2026, Ayariga explained that the contractor halted work due to the suspension of a loan facility that was financing the project.
“The reason why Galvão stopped work is that the project was funded by a loan, and when that loan was suspended, the contractor could not continue because there was no money to pay for the work done,” He said.
He however, indicated that government is taking steps to stabilize the economy and restore the loan facility to allow work to resume.
“We are in the process of restoring the loan facility, and the Roads Minister has directed the contractor to return to site even as arrangements are being finalized to resume payments.” He added.
Prior to the sod-cutting, the Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central paid a courtesy call on the Bawku Naba at his palace to formally inform about the projects being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund within the Bawku traditional area.
