Navrongo NDC Vice Chair Praises Mahama’s lawful handling of CJ suspension
Aminini praised the President for respecting constitutional procedures, contrasting his conduct with that of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he accused of ignoring legal protocols during his tenure.
The Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Joseph Aminini, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as a lawful and transparent handling of the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, May 23, Aminini praised the President for respecting constitutional procedures, contrasting his conduct with that of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he accused of ignoring legal protocols during his tenure.
“The president has done nothing wrong. He is actually performing better than someone who was even a lawyer. I now understand that being a lawyer doesn’t necessarily mean you believe in the law,” Aminini said.
He lauded President Mahama for acting strictly within the bounds of the Constitution, particularly Article 146, which provides for the suspension and possible removal of high-ranking judicial officers.
“President Mahama is living and working within the remits of the law,” he added.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who was suspended recently, has filed a petition at the Supreme Court seeking to bar Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu from participating in proceedings related to her potential removal. She is also asking the court to restrain the committee investigating the petitions against her from proceeding until her application is determined.
Aminini expressed support for the Chief Justice’s legal action, describing it as commendable and an exercise of her rights under the law. He urged the Supreme Court to deliver a ruling that upholds the national interest and reinforces public confidence in the judiciary.
The unfolding legal battle has sparked widespread debate, with legal experts, political observers, and civil society groups weighing in on the implications for judicial independence and the integrity of Ghana’s constitutional processes.
