NDC communicator accuses suspended Chief Justice of undermining committee probe
According to Asurayaga, Justice Torkornoo’s recent public statements and legal manoeuvres are part of a broader strategy to politicise the inquiry, delay proceedings, and retain her position in defiance of growing public concern.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Angelina Asurayaga, has accused suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo of deliberately stalling the proceedings of the committee investigating her potential removal from office.
Speaking during an interview on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Tuesday May 28, Asurayaga claimed that the embattled Chief Justice is attempting to portray the process as a political witch-hunt, framing it as an NDC-led agenda rather than a legitimate legal inquiry.
“The woman is not fighting the Judiciary, she is fighting against NDC because she thinks that whatever is happening is fuel by NDC members, most of those sentiments she is bringing is a defence mechanism, noting serious, she is saying all this to buy more time to be able to accept what is going on. Asurayaga said.
According to Asurayaga, Justice Torkornoo’s recent public statements and legal manoeuvres are part of a broader strategy to politicise the inquiry, delay proceedings, and retain her position in defiance of growing public concern.
She went further to accuse the suspended Chief Justice of being aligned with the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, suggesting that her continued presence in office was untenable under the current government.
Justice Torkornoo, in a supplementary affidavit filed at the Supreme Court, described the proceedings of the Justice Pwamang-led committee as a “mockery of justice” and a “ruse” aimed at unfairly removing her from office.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court has struck out a supplementary affidavit, the court ruled that the contents of the affidavit referred to events that occurred before the committee investigating the petitions for her removal — proceedings which, by law, are expected to be held in camera.
